Let the wrappings testify; Jesus was injured but alive when laid in the tomb

Paarsurrey says:

Why and what for; So many wrappings on Jesus?

Hi

Kindly let the wrappings of Jesus tell the story of Jesus that he did not die a cursed death on Cross but he survived as he had earlier foretold to show Sign of Jonah. Jesus migrated from Jerusalem and went to the East to spread his teachings in the ten tribes of the house of Israel who were settled there; a primary mission of Jesus as he had also told.

The question to start with is; why Jesus was wrapped into in the first place? The wrappings speak that the persons who wrapped him were sure that Jesus had not died on the Cross.

A dead body needs no wrappings whatsoever. The body of a dead person is covered with a shroud that is the Jewish, Christian and Muslim tradition I think. The dead body is given a bath or washed and is wrapped into a shroud/s.The final funeral ceremony is held, and it is placed in the grave.

Please quote from some Jewish, Christian and Muslim sources if I am wrong.

1. When and where Jesus was given a bath or his body was washed.

2. Did the disciples ,who had fled away from the scene of crucifixion, were informed of the funeral ceremony? If not, why not?

3. Who lead the funeral prayer?

4. Was funeral ceremony held in Jewish tradition or Christian tradition? Christian tradition was invented later by Paul or his church unauthorized. Jesus had given no such tradition.

If those who were trusted with the body of Jesus did not participate or arrange the above; and we find no such recorded account in the four gospels, it is sure those who looked after his body knew that Jesus was not dead and hence they did not do it.

The injured body always needs wrappings after application of the ointments or medicines in the garb of fragrances.

I think the rest is very clear. Those who wrapped Jesus; they are the ones or their helping friends who are supposed to unwrap him. If they could put him in a tomb and placed a stone on the opining; they could help Jesus to push the stone away, unwrap him and let him go.

This is very reasonable. I think you agree with me.

I love Jesus and Muhammad.

Thanks

I am an Ahmadi peaceful Muslim

My Christian friends are welcome for comments; even if they differ from me.

There would not have been enough time for a full fledged funeral ceremony to be held for Jesus after His death on the cross.

Jesus died shortly before the beginning of a Jewish sabbath and funerals were not held on sabbaths. The Scriptures indicate that Jesus died around 3 PM. It would have taken some time for permission to be granted by Pilate for Jesus body to be taken from the cross. By the time such permission would have been given it would have been close to sundown and the Jewish sabbath (see John 19:31-42).

The historical evidence concerning Jesus’ wrappings with spices are actually evidence for Jesus’ death on the cross (John 19:38-42).

Spices were used in burial customs, as related by the historian Josephus. “Five hundred servants bearing spices participated in the funeral procession of Herod the Great” (Josephus, Ant. xvii. 199).

In the fifth decade of the first century, Onkelos burned about eighty pounds of spices at the funeral of Gamaliel the elder (Strack and P. Billerbeck 2. 584)” (Carson, D. A. . The Gospel according to John p.629).

When the Jewish King Asa was buried in the Old Testament we learn that he was also buried with all kind of spices (2 Chronicles 16:14).

Did Jesus die on the cross or did He only swoon? What is the historical evidence? What is the best medical evidence?

HISTORICAL EVIDENCE

The Old Testament prophets testified to Jesus death and burial. For example, Isaiah wrote almost 700 years before Jesus,

Isaiah 53:7-9
He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He did not open His mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter, And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, So He did not open His mouth. By oppression and judgment He was taken away; And as for His generation, who considered That He was cut off out of the land of the living For the transgression of my people, to whom the stroke was due? His grave was assigned with wicked men, Yet He was with a rich man in His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was there any deceit in His mouth.

Jesus testified to His death on multiple occasions. Here are a few examples:

Matthew 16:21
From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.

Matthew 20:17-19
Now as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside and said to them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will turn him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!”

Matthew 26:1-2
When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples, “As you know, the Passover is two days away—and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”

Matthew 26:6-12
While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper, a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table. When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. “Why this waste?” they asked. “This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor.” Aware of this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me. When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.

Here are some eyewitnesses to the death of Jesus on the cross:

Mary Magdalene
Mary the mother of James and Joseph
Mary the mother of Jesus
The disciple whom Jesus loved (John 19:26)

Here is a list of names of people who participated in the burial of Jesus’ dead body:

Joseph of Arimathea
Nicodemus
Mary Magdalene
Mary the mother of James and Joseph

Even non-Christian sources wrote that Jesus died:

Josephus (Jewish historian born around 37 AD and died 100 AD) refers to Jesus’ death (Antiquities 18.3.3).

Tacitus (AD 55-120), a renowned historian of ancient Rome wrote around 115 A.D. that Christ was “executed” by Pilate (Annals 15.44).

The law/Torah requires that a matter be established by two or three witnesses (Deuteronomy 17:6-7). Therefore, the testimonies of Jesus, Old Testament prophets, Jesus’ followers, non-Christian historians, etc. is true, legal and believable compared to the testimony of Muhammad (or the Qur’an), which was written nearly six hundred years after the event. To put it simply, the Law of Moses makes it unlawful to believe the Qur’an.

I’ve provided substantial 1st century testimony to Jesus death on the cross. The Qur’an came hundreds of years after the event; it has no historical support from the 1st century to support its claim and is vague. The Qur’an does not explain who died on the cross, it does not explain whether the disciples of Jesus were deceived, and does not explain why Allah has allowed the world to be deceived (or did Allah deceive the world?) about this for hundreds of years.

An honest look at the facts leads to the conclusion that the Christian Scriptures are superior to the Qur’an because of the superior evidence available demonstrating the death of Jesus on the cross.

MEDICAL EVIDENCE

Here is medical evidence from a peer reviewed medical journal (one of the most prestigious in the world) that Jesus died on the cross and did now swoon,

"Clearly, the weight of historical and medical evidence indicates that Jesus was dead before the wound to his side was inflicted and supports the traditional view that the spear, thrust between his right rib, probably perforated not only the right lung but also the pericardium and heart and thereby ensured his death. Accordingly, interpretations based on the assumption that Jesus did not die on the cross appear to be at odds with modern medical knowledge."
Citation: William D. Edwards, MD; Wesley J. Gabel, MDiv; Floyd E. Hosmer, MS, AMI; “On the Physical Death of Jesus Christ”; Journal of the American Medical Association 21 March 1986; Volume 255, 1463.

Can you provide better medical evidence for the swoon theory from a peer reviewed journal and not simply from isolated doctors?

If you are unable to provide superior testimony then I invite you to embrace Christianity as the truth and only way of salvation. Jesus said, “I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am the one I claim to be, you will indeed die in your sins.” (John 8:24)

I invite you to love Jesus by believing what He taught and believing in His death and resurrection for sinners.

Sincerely,
Aaron
